A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is an assessment completed by your GP or Psychiatrist. To obtain a MHCP you will need to make an appointment with your GP or Psychiatrist and they will determine if you are eligible for a MHCP.  The MHCP entitles you to a Medicare rebate.

How many sessions do I get with a MHCP?

Medicare will provide a rebate for up to 10 appointments each calendar year. These appointments expire at the end of each year and cannot be transferred over to the next year.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate and also use my private health insurance to reduce my fee further?

No, you can only claim one or the other. In regards to using your private health insurance, you will need to check with your provider to find out if your coverage includes psychology services and if so, how much they will cover you for.
